When designing our seed storage, we dedicated ourselves to maximising user convenience by considering all possibilities, taking into account the characteristics of our target audience and environmental conditions. Extensive research and experimentation were conducted to develop the finest product possible. Our metal plates are crafted from stainless steel, ensuring exceptional resistance to high temperatures. With the smart split method, it is essential to store your seed across three plates in a specific manner. By employing this method, you can recover your private keys using just two of the metal plates.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
To begin, simply download our iOS or macOS app, which allows you to conveniently split the mnemonic phrase into three distinct groups. Rest assured, our app does not store any information, nor does it connect to the internet or incorporate any third-party code. You can comfortably perform the task with your Wi-Fi switched off and easily delete the app afterwards.
If you are unable or prefer not to use our One Step Ahead application, don’t worry! You can still accomplish the task manually by utilising our guide and BIP39 booklet to assign codes and allocate them to their corresponding plates.
1. Start by grabbing a piece of paper and write down each word, placing them one below another. Avoid writing them in a single line. Make sure to include an order number before each word to maintain the sequence.
2. Refer to our BIP39 word booklet and assign the codes to each word. Please note that all the words in the booklet are arranged in alphabetical order.
Important! While using the booklet to search for the codes, avoid leaving any marks next to the words. Leaving marks may unintentionally expose your seed words.
3. Double-check that the assigned codes accurately correspond to the words from your seed.
4. Now, grab a permanent marker and a plate. Begin by clearly marking the code on the plate, aligning it with the corresponding order number of each word. Once you’ve completed one side, flip the plate and continue marking on the other side. Repeat this process for all remaining plates.
5. Once again, verify that each code correctly corresponds to the intended word.
6. Now, employ a centre punch tool to permanently engrave the codes over the previously made markings.
7. Once you have all three plates marked correctly, distribute them to three different secure locations. These locations should be easily accessible to you while ensuring their security.
